Text editor

The text editor in SingularityApp is a powerful tool that helps you not just write text, but also structure it, highlight what’s important, and insert images. Use it to store detailed instructions, recipes, lists, useful links, and even images inside your tasks and notes. When all the information for a task is clearly organized and right at hand, working with it becomes much easier.

Text Formatting

You can easily change the appearance of text to make it more readable and highlight important details.

To format text, first select the desired fragment. A floating toolbar will appear above it.

On mobile devices, the formatting toolbar is located at the bottom of the screen and is always visible when editing a note.

The toolbar offers the following options:

  • Bold text
  • Italic
  • Underlined text
  • Headings of three levels (H1, H2, H3)
  • Lists (numbered, bulleted, and checklists)
  • Divider
  • Indentation (increase/decrease indent)
  • Add link
  • Clear formatting
  • Add images [ELITE]
  • Add tables [ELITE]
  • Choose text and background color [ELITE]

Quick Commands and Shortcuts

To quickly insert elements without taking your hands off the keyboard, use the block menu. It allows you to insert not only text but also lists, headings, images, and dividers.

How to open the block menu:

  • Method 1: Simply type the “/” (slash) symbol at the beginning of a new line. A menu will appear where you can choose the desired element or find it using search.
  • Method 2: Hover over an empty line, and a “+” icon will appear on the left. Click it to open the menu.
  • Method 3: At the top of the block menu, there’s a search bar. Start typing the name of a block (for example, “tabl” or “head”) to quickly find what you need.

You can format text even faster by using simple commands at the beginning of a line:

  • # (space) — Heading 1
  • ## (space) — Heading 2
  • ### (space) — Heading 3
  • * or — (space) — Bulleted list
  • [] or [x] (space) — Checklist
  • --- (space) — Divider (horizontal line)

Use keyboard shortcuts for maximum efficiency.

Basic text formatting:

  • Bold text: ⌘ Cmd / Ctrl + B
  • Italic: ⌘ Cmd / Ctrl + I
  • Underline: ⌘ Cmd / Ctrl + U

Quick element insertion:

  • Text: ⌘ Cmd/Ctrl + Option / Shift + 0
  • Heading H1: ⌘ Cmd/Ctrl + Option / Shift + 1
  • Heading H2: ⌘ Cmd/Ctrl + Option / Shift + 2
  • Heading H3: ⌘ Cmd/Ctrl + Option / Shift + 3
  • Checklist: ⌘ Cmd/Ctrl + Option / Shift + 4
  • Bulleted list: ⌘ Cmd/Ctrl + Option / Shift + 5
  • Numbered list: ⌘ Cmd/Ctrl + Option / Shift + 6

Working with images [ELITE]

You can add images to your notes to make them more visual. This feature is available on the Elite plan.

How to add an image

  1. Through the block menu: open the menu using “/” or “+”, select the “Image” block, and upload a file from your computer.
  2. Drag-and-drop: simply drag an image file from your computer into the note’s text area.
  3. Copy and paste: copy an image (from a file on your computer or from a website) and paste it into a note using Ctrl + V / ⌘ Cmd + V.
  1. Through the block menu: tap the “+” icon in the toolbar, select the “Image” block, and choose a picture from your gallery.
  2. Through the toolbar icon: tap the image icon in the toolbar to open the gallery directly.

Editing images

After inserting, you can adjust the image. Hover over it to display the control panel with options:

  • Resize: drag the side or bottom handles that appear along the image edges. If you stretch the image to the full width of the editor, it will switch to a narrow cover mode.
  • Align: use the panel to align the image to the left, right, or center.
  • Download or delete: these options are also available on the control panel.

Tap the image to open the context menu. In the menu, you can choose an action: delete, duplicate, replace, insert below, or share.

Important limitations:

  • The minimum image size is 100×100 pixels. Smaller images will be automatically enlarged.
  • Images from notes won’t appear on the project’s shared page, opened via a public link. Inside shared projects, images will only be visible to the user who uploaded them.

Attaching Files [ELITE]

In addition to images, you can attach other types of files to notes (for example, documents, PDFs, or archives). There are three different ways to add a file to a note, each with its own features.

Method 1: Attach a file as a separate attachment.

This method is ideal when a file is the main document or resource for a task/note (for example, a contract, invoice, or technical specification). The file is attached in a special field below the text editor.

How to insert:

  1. Drag & drop: Drag a file from a folder on your computer and drop it onto the dashed area below the note’s text field.
  2. Using the paperclip icon: Click the paperclip icon located below the text input field, then choose a file from your computer.

Attached files are displayed as a list below the main note text. You can download or delete them.

Method 2: Insert a file inside the text (as a block).

This method is used when the file is an integral part of the note or serves as an illustration for the text.

How to insert:

  1. Through the block menu:

    • On an empty line in the editor, type “/” or click “+” to open the block menu.
    • Select “File” and upload it from your computer.
  2. Drag & drop:

    • Drag a file from a folder into the note’s text area (the insertion point will be highlighted with a horizontal line).
    • After releasing the mouse button, a menu will appear. Select “Insert file.”

The file appears as an interactive block within the text. The block shows the file name, extension, and size. This file is also uploaded to the app and synchronized.

Method 3: Insert a link to a local file.

This option is useful when you need to reference a large file without uploading it to the app, or if you work with the file only on one computer.

How to insert: Drag a file from a folder into the note’s text area and, in the menu that appears, select “Insert local path.”

A clickable link in the format file:///... will be added to the note, leading to the file on your computer.

Details:

  • The file itself is not uploaded to the server and is not synchronized. It does not take up storage space in the app.
  • The link will work only on the computer from which it was added.

Important! This feature is available only in the desktop version of the app. In the web version, the file will automatically upload and be inserted as a block.

Working with Tables [ELITE]

Tables help structure data directly within notes.

To add a table, open the block menu in one of two ways: type “/” at the beginning of a new line or click the “+” icon that appears on the left. In the opened menu, select “Table” — you can quickly find it using the built-in search. A standard 2×2 table will immediately appear in your note.

Adding rows and columns

  • Click the “+” button to the right of the table to add columns, or below to add rows. The button in the lower-right corner adds both a column and a row at once.
  • You can also add columns and rows inside the table: hover over the dot to the left of a row or above a column — the dot will turn into a “+” button, and clicking it will insert a new row or column.
  • Another option is to open the row/column context menu and choose to insert before/after or left/right.

Changing column width and row height

  • Hover over the border of any column or row.
  • When the cursor changes shape, hold down the left mouse button and drag the border left or right (up or down) to adjust the desired column width (or row height).

Deleting a table:

  • Select any cell in the table — a control menu will appear above the top-left corner.
  • Click it and choose the delete option.

Only viewing and editing text within existing tables is available. You can view tables created on a computer and edit the text inside their cells — simply tap the desired cell and start typing.

Additional Features

Links

To turn text into a hyperlink, select it, click the link icon on the toolbar, and paste the desired URL.

Copying and pasting

When copying text from SingularityApp and pasting it into another note or a different application, the formatting is preserved. The same applies when pasting formatted text from other sources into SingularityApp — the editor will try to keep the original style.

Unknown blocks

If you open a note edited in a newer version of the app that includes features not yet available in your version, these elements will appear as «unknown element blocks.» They won’t disappear and will display correctly once your app is updated to the latest version.
